The Chairman, Board of First Bank Nigeria Limited, Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale, on Sunday, July 18, 2021, delivered a Commencement pasgol Address for the 2021 convocation on the topic; Strategy for Growth and Development: Human Capital.

The excerpt of the lecture is given below:

    INTRODUCTION

We are all born for a purpose and essentially created to work— add value, make new things, and make things better than before.

    deneme bonusu veren siteler

The very essence of the human earthly sojourn is to be a creature that can build relationships with its environment, resources, and birth things that can make life on earth meaningful for self and others.

We are made for purposeful living.

    WHAT IS HUMAN CAPITAL?

Human capital is the collective assets of skill sets, knowledge, capabilities, and experience that people have to offer in a given economy. As a sustainable growth and development strategy, human capital must be effectively utilized to lead communities, organizations, and countries from disorder to order, from lack to abundance, from failure to success, and from threats of disintegration to sustainable unity.

Almost every company today will state that their employees are their most important and thus valuable asset. When we say that, we are simply also referring to the future of you.

The bedrock of sustainable growth and development in every facet of our economy—which I believe everyone desires to experience at various levels—is Human Capital.

At the very heart of the societal decadence currently experienced across the continent and the globe is the abuse and, in many cases, deficiency of human capital.  According to recent statistics by Statista, the Nigerian productive populace stands at about 54% of the entire country. This percentage excludes the 44% of the population aged 0-14, which is a pointer to our vast human resource potential as a country.

The wealth of every nation may begin with its natural resources but can only be sustained and maximized by its Human Capital.  Despite these promising figures, we still find ourselves struggling with retrogressive indices in various sectors of the economy.

THE NEED TO DEVELOP HUMAN CAPITAL

It is important to note that human capital development is a long-term/and continuous goal that involves both individual and organizations/educational institutions.

Globally, companies and brands are strategically planning and positioning their internal productive resources in order to thrive in betovis giriş the face of increasing innovation and competition. The growing importance of knowledge is changing the nature of economic exchange everywhere in the world. The organizations that are able to master the production of knowledge and its conversion to tradable goods and services are topping the charts of economic growth and success.

    betovis güncel giriş

To the individual employees, remaining relevant and higher individual income remains the objective; hence the need for reskilling and upskilling.

The 2018 Future of Jobs Report from the World Economic Forum predicts that 75 million jobs will be displaced by 2022 in 20 major economies. At the betovis same time, 133 million new roles are expected to be created, driven by advances in technology and continuous digital transformation.

As demand for new capabilities gathers pace, reskilling and upskilling become very important to both individuals and organizations to develop the skills needed to remain competitive.

    What is the solution?

Until today, no economy, whether first-world or emerging, has made significant progress without optimizing its Human Capital.  I am delighted to state that Adeleke University is in the league of trailblazing homegrown institutions redefining the essence of quality capacity building and education here in Nigeria.

Ten years of thriving in the educational sector is no small feat. According to Bill Gates, In the long run, your human capital is your main base of competition. Your leading indicator of where you are going to be 20 years from now is how well you are doing on your education system.

What we must note as stakeholders of this great Institution

Actively successful systems power every successful economy. These systems across the socio-cultural, political and financial sectors of a country are driven largely by committed men and women who work together to keep each sector running at its highest capacity.

This day, right now, my dear graduants, you are the fruit of an extensive human capital exercise. You are the result of all the guiding vision and philosophy of Adeleke University. Every lecture, every council, every reprimand, every test in the course of the last couple of years are all that have led to your glowing presence here today.

    SO WHAT THEN?

We may temporarily run out of money and lack quality administrative leadership at our various levels of governance for a season. Still, with quality Human Capital, any nation can chart a viable course towards socio-economic stability.

Dear graduants of this prestigious Institution going into the world today,  as you take flight, not merely as another set of graduants to flood the job market but as an asset to an ailing nation, you all must gradually rise to the occasion of destiny.

Do not be caught up by the world out there. Do not be available for futile meddling either online or offline.

In the search for validity, do not compromise your quintessence as a foremost tertiary institution’s ambassador.  Consciously seek to implement all that you have been taught— all you currently stand for as a proud product of this Institution.  Engage your peers wisely, engage leadership at whichever level you find yourself tactfully but most importantly, show leadership by your capacity to bring creativity and productivity to bear in all you do.

Dear graduants, remember that the pathway to destiny has no simple shortcuts, so be prepared to work the ladder up. No one will make pathways for you. But because there is a greater picture of success when we all work together, doing our best at whichever point we find ourselves, your character and integrity will pave new paths of excellence that the world will not ignore.

Also worthy of note is that personal development planning as defined in the original Guidelines for Higher Education Progress Files (Quality Assurance Agency-QAA, 2001) is ‘a structured and supported process undertaken by an individual to reflect upon their own learning, performance and/or achievement and to plan for their personal, educational and career development. The emphasis in the definition is placed on the individual’s ‘ownership’ of the process.

Therefore, your career development as an individual should be primarily owned by you as it determines how you are valued in the labour market; work rigorously on it and you shall remain relevant and successful.

I must commend the tireless, stellar effort of the faculty and staff of the University in raising a new crop of young and vibrant leaders which our country is in dire need of. May all your input in the lives of our young ones be rewarded abundantly.

My gratitude also goes to the Governing Council for affording me the opportunity to share this great commemoration with you all.

Finally, as you convocate today, remember these significant pledges from your Anthem:

Through the power of the almighty GOD,

    Upholding truth and integrity

Taking giants strides and breaking new grounds….

    Giving our all to humanity….

Stand as a true product of this Institution; stand as a beacon to the world.

    Thank you!

While giving his welcome address, the President/Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Solomon Adebola thanked God for His deneme bonusu veren bahis siteleri mercies over the University in the past ten years. According to him, “God has been so good to us in Adeleke University”. “I must thank God for the life of our Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke”. “The vision he bahis siteleri had ten years ago, has expanded such that, there is no part of the world where you will not see at least one beneficiary of this vision, either as a staff, student or an alumni”. “We must continue to pray for him and all members of his family”.

    güvenilir bahis siteleri

The ceremony which was conducted virtually had the Principal Officers, Deans, relevant staff members and few invited guests in attendance.

Excerpt from the Vice-Chancellor’s speech is given below:

You will agree with me that, this is really a dream come true for many of you who understand that you have begun a journey that will lead you to your desired destination. An occasion like this brings joy and I will like at this juncture, to formally welcome you to Adeleke University, where you will be exposed to endless opportunities to excel both in academics and in character formation. According to a Chinese author, Bo Bennet, “a dream becomes a goal only when action is taken towards its achievement”. Suggesting that, after this small ceremony, the door of endless opportunities will be formally open to you and then, the onus will be on you to walk through the open door into your desired future.

We must thank the Almighty God for the number of new students we have this year. By the special grace of God, we are formally welcoming 967 young men and women (100 level and transfer) into the family of Adeleke University. The global coronavirus pandemic and its attendant economic recession in Nigeria did not affect us adversely in terms of the number of students admitted to this session. To God be the glory.

I must congratulate you all for making it thus far. It is only by dint of hard work and commitment that you have made it into this hallowed chamber at this moment. In the word of Clement Stone, “definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievements.” By virtue of being part of this ceremony, the definiteness of your purpose is no longer in doubt. You have made your parents and sponsors proud, hence you deserved to be congratulated.

You are lucky that you are in a University that, since its inception, the academic calendar has never been distorted. Even the global pandemic, caused by novel coronavirus could not distort our academic programme. Hence, it is on record that, Adeleke University was the first University in Nigeria to conduct virtual convocation on the 19th of July, 2020.

To our parents, I appreciate your love for our University. It takes huge sacrifice to send your wards to us and I would like all of you students to stand up and clap for your parents, guardians and sponsors. God has ordered your footsteps to come to Adeleke University and none of you is here by mistake. The University that started in March 2011 has grown to the level of having six faculties, 32 undergraduate programmes and 40 postgraduate programmes up to Ph.D levels. While we are happy over these modest achievements, we must acknowledge the fact that, the best is yet to come.

Matriculation tells you “welcome to a University”, please, you must cooperate with us and walk with us till we bid you, goodbye in the next three, four or five years depending on your course of studies.

Adeleke University, as a faith-based institution is a place to transform lives and give meaning to human dignity.  Your parents, guardian and sponsors have brought you here to acquire quality education. To some of you, this is the first time you will be leaving the comfort of your homes and hence, campus life may be challenging. You must learn to adapt. You will interact with other students who may not have the same family background with your own. You must not allow the negative influences that would come your way to affect your good manners. Our society today is being bedeviled by the menace of drug use and abuse, sexual immorality and perversion and greed.  The zeal that characterized the attitude of Nigerian students during the 1950s up to 1970s seems to have disappeared. Thus, the students of today seem to be more interested in activities that may not be entirely academic in nature.

Here in Adeleke University, we pride ourselves as, “God’s Own Project”. Within the next three, four or five years that you will sojourn on this campus, you will be exposed to both academic and moral teachings. The moral teachings that we teach here are aimed at promoting academic excellence, integrity and moral purity. We need your cooperation because studentship in Adeleke University calls for responsibility, accountability and devotion.

Once again, welcome to the cradle of academic excellence! Welcome to Adeleke University, the Garden of Eden in Ede.

The immediate past President/Vice- Chancellor of Adeleke University, Professor Samuel Ekundayo Alao was finally interred on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at his home town in Oke-Oyi, Kwara State. Professor Alao, was a Professor of Mass Communication and the third and immediate past President/Vice- Chancellor of Adeleke University.

    BELOW IS HIS PROFILE:

He started his early primary education at Ayedade Primary School at the age of five and later was transferred to Gbogan Community School (now in Osun State). Because of his father?s incessant transfers, little Samuel was subjected to continues changing of schools. However, in 1958, his Uncle, Mr. Joshua Alao, bahsine who was a Police Officer in Jos, Plateau State took Samuel to Jos to continue his Primary School Education at Ansar-Ur-Deen Primary School, Jos. On completion of his primary school education in Jos, he applied for the Army Command Secondary School and was admitted. Having gotten a secondary school admission, he travelled to Ikun in Ekiti State where his parents were working to inform them of the development.

Elder, Professor Samuel Ekundayo Alao, epitomized Grace, Courage and Devotion. Little Samuel Ekundayo Alao was born in the early hours of Friday, September 17, 1948 into the family of Pastor Amos and Shepherdess Comfort Alao of Oluo compound in Oke-Oyi, Kwara State. Pastor Amos Alao was a Pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist church who ministered in churches different areas including; Erunmu, Gbogan, Ikire, Ayedade, Oke-Ila just to mention a few. Little Samuel lived with his parents and had his own rough experience of the ministerial work. He sometimes travelled with his father on bare foots, carrying their load on their head to far locations where his father was to preach in journeys that sometimes lasted for days.

After observing his boisterous lifestyle which was a result of his schooling in the North, his parents decided that he would not return to the North for his secondary school education. All his efforts to plead with his parents to allow him return to the North were refuted. Hence, in 1965, he was admitted into Form One at the Adventist Grammar School, Ede. At Adventist Grammar School, Ede, he was known for his sportsmanship especially as a goalkeeper. Whenever Samuel Alao was at the goal post, the opponents knew that they are in for a difficult encounter. He also displayed some of his Northern-boy rascality especially to miscreant seniors who delighted in punishing innocent junior students. Unfortunately, his father died when he was about to register for his final year examination. The death of his father caused him an untold hardship as he was unable to register for the West African School Certificate Examination. It took the grace of God and the support of good spirited church members for him to register for this all important examination.
